The President has reconstituted the University of Ibadan Governing Council, with Chief John Odigie Oyegun, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerging as the Chairman of the New Council.
The constitution of the new 5-man council followed the eventual dissolution of the Joshua Mutka-led one. Chief John Odigie Oyegun is the successor of Nde Waklek Joshua Mutka, the former chairman. The appointment was announced by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, on Thursday, 8 April, 2021.
According to the report by Channels TV, Chief John Oyegun will serve alongside the following people as members of the new body: Dr Mazud Kazaure from the North-West, Comrade Abba Yaro from the North Central, Alh. Abubakar Maikafi from the North East, and Hon. Emeka Nwagbo from the South East.
Recall that news of the indefinite suspension of the Joshua Mutka-led Council circulated on 9 February, 2021, following issues that stemmed from the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor. The new body is expected to oversee the process for the selection of a Vice-Chancellor to succeed erstwhile VC, Prof. Idowu Olayinka.
President Buhari also reconstituted the governing councils of University of Port Harcourt, the University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State. The inauguration ceremony of the new members is scheduled to hold on April Monday, 19, 2021.
