The Katanga Republic Independent Electoral Commission (KRIEC), on Friday, 19th April, 2024, has disqualified Emiola Sarafa, an aspirant for the position of Defence Commissioner, in the Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan.

Mr. Sarafa’s disqualification, according to the electoral commission’s release, was premised on ‘multiple credible petitions outlining instances of alleged harassment, bullying, and intimidation by Mr. Sarafa’, which the Hall Warden had received.

“Given the Hall Warden’s expressed reservations about recommending Mr. Sarafa to the Dean of Students, and in light of these newly presented concerns, KRIEC has undertaken a thorough reassessment of Mr. Sarafa’s candidacy” the electoral commission’s release reads.

Stating that the disqualification was necessary, the electoral commission, KRIEC, noted that the cumulative weight of these complaints raises substantial concerns about Mr. Sarafa’s fitness for the position of Defence Commissioner.

“After careful deliberation, the KRIEC has determined that the cumulative weight of these complaints raises substantial concerns about Mr. Sarafa’s fitness for the position of Defence Commissioner. As such, his disqualification is necessary” the release added.
