The University of Ibadan’s Governing Council, headed by Chief Adebisi Akande, convened its inaugural meeting on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Adeoye Lambo Senate Chamber.
Chief Akande, former Governor of Osun State and past Chairman of the All-Progressives Congress presided over the session and addressed several key issues.
The Governing Council approved the revised levy schedule for newly admitted and returning undergraduate students for the 2023/2024 academic session, as recommended by the University Senate.
While acknowledging the financial burden on students, the Council emphasized that the fee increment was necessary due to prevailing economic conditions and the University’s commitment to maintaining high-quality education and research.
Students were urged to complete their registration by Wednesday, September 4, 2024, to enable departments to prepare for the upcoming First Semester Examinations.
The Council also highlighted available financial support, encouraging students to explore the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and various scholarships.
Also, Chief Akande directed that his emoluments as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council be allocated as scholarships for deserving undergraduate students majoring in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
The Adebisi Akande Foundation will supplement these scholarships to ensure beneficiaries receive adequate financial support.
The Governing Council includes prominent figures which include the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman, Chief Adebisi Akande; Government Appointees namely Chief (Dr) A. O. Ajipe, Ms Ifeoma Nwankwo, Hon. G. N. Alapa, Professor B. E. Alo; the representative of the Federal Ministry of Education(F. A. Aderibigbe); Representatives of the University Senate: Professor J. T. Arotiba, Professor J. A. Adegoke, Professor Aina O. Adeogun, Professor Oyedunni S. Arulogun; and the congregation representatives, Professors S.G. Jonathan and I. A. Akinbola.
All Principal Officers of the University, Provosts of the College of Medicine, and the Postgraduate College attended the inaugural meeting.
