Members of the African Studies Students Association (ASSA) at the University of Ibadan on Monday held a manifesto presentation as part of activities leading up to the association’s election scheduled for Wednesday.

The manifesto presentation by the contesting aspirants was held at Drapers Hall, Institute of African Studies (IAS), in the presence of master’s and doctoral students, former officials and staff of the institute.

Contestants in the association’s election are Beatrice Inimfon Ekpeyong and Oyinkansola Adisa, who are both vying for the position of President.

Unimashi Ugbe is vying for the position of Vice President, while Juan Oluremi is contesting for Secretary of State.

Ayomide Alabi is contesting for Social and Welfare Minister, Temiloluwa Ajao for Head of Treasury, while Ifefami Adeleke is contesting for Information Minister.

Also on the eligible list of contestants, Marvellous Osunlana is contesting for the position of Deputy Secretary of State.

Present at the official gathering of the students’ association were members of the academic staff, including Dr Olaoluwa Adekola, Dr Dapo Ajayi, Dr Oreoluwa Oguntomisin, and the Institute’s Secretary, Mrs Dorcas Adesuyi.

Commenting, Tioluwase Daniel Ola-Ajao, a member of the electoral committee, commended the conduct of the aspirants and attendees at the manifesto presentation.

“The manifesto and debate went well. The coordination was proper, as the candidates and the coordinator adhered to the allocated time. The questions and responses were to the point and were not geared towards instigating the aspirants or their supporters,” Mr Ola-Ajao said.

He added, “The event was a beautiful one, and I commend everyone who had a hand in its organisation. We look forward to the results on Wednesday.”

The elected members of the Executive Council are expected to hold office for one session, in line with the academic calendar of the University of Ibadan.

The ultimate electoral process to determine the next administration that will govern the affairs of the association will commence at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9.
