The Office of the Dean of Students, University of Ibadan, is set to hold a fire-safety training for hall personnel and students ahead of the commencement of LPG use for cooking in the Halls of Residence (HoRs).
The development was disclosed in a memorandum addressed to hall wardens and signed by the Dean of Students, Professor Demola Lewis, on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The Train-the-Trainers event is scheduled to hold on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Trenchard Hall.
According to the Dean, the training is in line with the Vice-Chancellor’s directive that “the use of LPG for cooking in the HoRs will only commence after safety measures have been put in place and residents have been properly trained.”
He also requested that wardens attend the training alongside nominated officers and students from their respective Halls of Residence.
“We recommend that the selected attendees from each HoR should cut across the following categories: assistant wardens, welfare officers, hall executives (including defence ministers), floor representatives, resident members of the Man O’ War and the Red Cross (if applicable),” he stated.
“Due to this short notice, you may, however, open the participation to members of the HoR who indicate their availability,” he added.
The expected number of attendees is 240 student residents from the various Halls of Residence.
