The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council, Oyo State Axis, and the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Oyo State Chapter, have called for the immediate release of prospective corps members reportedly abducted while travelling from Samonda, Ibadan.

In statements issued on Friday, October 2, 2026, and Saturday, October 3, 2026, respectively, the two student unions expressed concern over the reported abduction of prospective corps members mobilised from Oyo State for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Programme.

“The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council, Oyo State Axis, expresses deep concern over the reported abduction of prospective corps members from Oyo State who were mobilized for the NYSC Orientation Programme,” the NANS JCC Chairman wrote.

He demanded an official briefing from the NYSC confirming the exact number of affected prospective corps members from Oyo State and urged the agency to address the nation and Oyo State on measures being taken to prevent further incidents.

Similarly, the NAUS Oyo State Chapter demanded the release of the verified passenger manifest and the list of affected prospective corps members to their families and the public.

The unions also called for official confirmation of the identities and number of affected PCMs, as well as immediate engagement with their families.

They further urged relevant authorities to investigate the transportation arrangements involved and conduct an immediate security review of the movement of prospective corps members from Oyo State.

The NANS JCC Chairman warned that failure to address the unions’ demands could lead to peaceful mass mobilisation by students and affected stakeholders.

“If these demands are ignored and there is no demonstrable emergency response, meaningful communication and concrete action towards the safe recovery of the affected prospective corps members, NANS JCC Oyo State and other sister organisations shall be compelled to commence a peaceful and lawful mass mobilisation of students and affected stakeholders,” he said.

“Such mobilisation may include peaceful picketing and closure of access to the NYSC Oyo State Secretariat and relevant transportation service outlets, as permitted by law, until the competent authorities provide satisfactory answers and demonstrate meaningful action,” he added.
