UI ASSA Mourns Death of Ph.D Student

The University of Ibadan African Studies Students’ Association (ASSA) has announced the death of Mr Benjamin Oghenovo Olori, a PhD student in Transformation Studies at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan.

This was disclosed in a statement co-signed by the president, ADISA Oyinkansola and the Secretary of State, OLUREMI Juan on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

“Mr Olori’s passing is a painful loss to the Institute and the entire Association. At this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, friends, colleagues, the Transformation Studies Unit, the Institute of African Studies and everyone affected by this painful loss” the statement reads.

On behalf of the student body, the association extends its condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones as it is a great loss to everyone.

“We pray that God grants his family and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

“As an Association, we mourn one of our own and stand in solidarity with the entire Institute community during this period of grief. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” it added.
