The 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State have regained their freedom.
This was disclosed by the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 through its official X account.
Recall that on October 1, a UI graduate alongside 19 others were kidnapped while travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states.
According to the Force, the victims were rescued on 7th October 2026 at Amakohia Ubi Village, Imo State, following sustained search-and-rescue operations.

The force also stated that affected Corp members have been taken for medical assessment and necessary care.
However, it noted that efforts are still ongoing to arrest the culprits.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction, as the Police and other security agencies sustain coordinated operations towards bringing all culpable persons to justice.”
Details of the operation as well as whether any arrests were made or ransom was paid, are yet to be ascertained as of the moment of this publication as it has not been made available for the public.
