The Senate of the University of Ibadan (UI) has resolved to enforce existing regulations barring already matriculated students from seeking fresh undergraduate admission into 100-level programmes through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the Post-UTME screening exercise.
The decision was contained in a memorandum issued by the Division of the Senate, Admissions and Affiliated Institutions, through the Office of the Registrar, on Thursday, September 17, and was circulated on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
According to the memorandum, the Senate observed that allowing already matriculated students to seek fresh undergraduate admission could, among other things, create recurring distortions in programme enrolment and establish a precedent that could encourage more students to re-enter the admission process.
The Senate further noted that the issue requires a balance between the legitimate interests of students and the University’s responsibility to maintain orderly academic administration.
