Among the university’s notable performers were Bello Olajide David, who won gold in the men’s 81kg Judo category, and Raji Naheemah Moyosore, who won gold in the individual 46kg Taekwondo category.

Awonusi Peter also won gold and was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the men’s singles Scrabble category.

Speaking with IndyPress, the Students’ Union Sports Secretary, Adedamola O. Siyanbade, described the competition as successful, considering the number of athletes who represented the university and the limited time available for preparation.

“It was quite successful, considering the short notice for the training of athletes and it turned out fine and very helpful. Overall, the athletics were very good. It was very good for the UI.” He said.

He also encouraged UI students to participate more actively in sports, noting that sporting activities offer opportunities beyond competition.

“There are a whole lot of opportunities which people don’t know exist in these sports. Pick one to participate in it. Devote your time. We know we are students and you can still create time for it. Trust me, there are a lot of athletes who finished in first class while representing the University,” he added.

A total of 36 athletes represented the University of Ibadan at the 15th Edition of the competition.
