In what is set to be the third edition, the Sigma club, University of Ibadan has announced that applications for this year’s edition of its scholarship programme have commenced.
The announcement was made by the Sigma Chief, Ibrahim Olanrewaju, while addressing reporters at a Press Conference on Friday, 3rd September, 2021.
“The qualification for this particular scholarship is that the student must be an indigent and diligent student,” the Sigma Chief said.
He explained further that applicants for the scholarship must be first-class or second-class-upper students in either 100 level or 200 level.
“The submission must be by mail. The submission window closes on Thursday, 20 September 2021,” he noted.
Speaking on the expected number of recipients, the Sigma Chief stated that the number of recipients of the award is not a publicly available information. However, he noted that the number of recipients would exceed twenty. Recall that twenty students won N100,000 each in the last edition of the scholarship.
In the same vein, Sigma Club announced that it received over 150 entries for its essay competition, with entries from UI students topping the chart.
“After the University of Ibadan, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka had about 30 – 34 percent of entries. The prize money for the first position remains N100, 000. Other prizes would be revealed soon.”
Meanwhile, Sigma Club would hold its annual conference between 3 December, 2021 and 6 December, 2021. According to the organization, the three-day event, tagged “Homecoming”, would also feature a walk to create awareness against drug abuse. Before the convention, the organization would hold an Havannah classic on 13 November, 2021.
