The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has condemned an incident involving a contestant at the Students’ Union Week Pageantry who killed a chicken with his teeth.

This was disclosed in a statement co-signed by the Students’ Union President, Temidayo S. Adeboye, and the General Secretary, Joshua O. Shontan, on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

“We are aware of the incident, and we condemn the act,” the Union stated.

According to the statement, the incident occurred during a pageantry organised as part of the ongoing Students’ Union Week. The Union acknowledged its responsibility for activities organised under the programme and said it was investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Union further stated that it understood the concerns generated by the video, assuring students and members of the public that it does not condone acts of cruelty or conduct inconsistent with the standards expected at its events.

“We are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement added.

The Students’ Union also appealed to members of the public to stop further sharing or reposting the video, noting that continued circulation would not help address or resolve the matter.

It added that it was reviewing the incident to ensure that future Union Week activities and other Students’ Union events uphold the values and standards expected of the University of Ibadan community.

The Union appreciated those who brought the incident to its attention and urged members of the public to remain calm as it addresses the matter.
