An Indy Press journalist and 100-level political science student, Adebayo Abdulrahman, has received the the Most Active Inductee Award at the 33rd Induction Ceremony of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJUI), held on Saturday, 18th September, 2021. The ceremony, themed “The Outliers,” was held in conjunction with the Famous Five Awards (FFA), at Trenchard hall, University of Ibadan, and witnessed the induction of a total of 79 new members into the union.
Alongside Abdulrahman, three other inductees also received awards for outstanding performances in different categories: Tijani Abdulkabir received the award for the Second Most Active Inductee and the duo of Lateefat Adebukola and Kufre Effiong emerged as Best Inductees for the first and second batch of the induction, respectively.
Apart from the awards received by the inductees, the famous five were also presented with awards in different categories. These include Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, who received the award for Academic Personality of the Year; Fisayo Soyombo, the founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), who received the Award in the journalism category; Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, who received the Award for the Political Personality of the Year; Dr. Jibril Abdulmalik, the founder of Asido Foundation, who received the award for the Humanitarian Personality of the Year; and Mr Segun Akinlolu (Beautiful Nubia), who received the award in the entertainment category.
The event also saw the launching of the Campulse Magazine. This was done by the two guest speakers, Alao Abiodun and Ibrahim Adeyemi; the Students’ Union President, Mr Oluwasegun Akeju; and a few of the famous five awardees who were present at the time.
Towards the end of the ceremony, Rauf Fasilat, the President of the Union, announced the plan of the incumbent tenure for a scholarship scheme for journalists in the union who have challenges with payment of school fees. This was shortly followed by the taking of oath by the inductees, and the Vice President Administration, Gloria Oladeji, proposed a vote of thanks. She congratulated all the inductees and encouraged them to be mindful of the reason why they joined the union, and remain focused during their spell as campus journalists.
