Events to Look Forward to in the Second Semester

By: Bobbyjay

The second semester of the ‘21/’22 academic session at the University of Ibadan has begun online as a result of the 2023 general elections. In less than a fortnight, physical activities will fully resume on campus. Sport remains arguably the most important extracurricular activity for students of this establishment. The always constant stream of crowds to the SUB sports annex is more than enough proof.

Below is a brief on sporting activities to expect in the ongoing semester:

The Interhall Competition

The interhall remains the most colorful sports activity that graces the institution. The euphoria, frenzy, music, and rivalry are always ones to look forward to. An event where you get to see friends and foes defy all logic as they declare loyalty to their respective halls of residency.

The Students’ Union held an interhall competition last year that featured only a football tournament, but this will be a quite bigger event that will feature a plethora of sporting events similar to the Inter-faculty. It is expected to see if the Nnamdi Azikiwe hall will get to defend its title and brandish its trademark coffin of shame.

Eligibility – all halls of residence inclusive of Alexander Brown Hall.

The 2023 Survival Cup

The survival cup is a tourney for fresh sophomores in their 2nd year at the University of Ibadan. It is a male football competition open to every 200-level department regardless of department or faculty. It is an initiative of the current SU sports Secretary and registration is reportedly ongoing till the 17th of March.

Eligibility – 200-level departments.

CBN Cup

The CBN cup is a tournament set up, particularly for freshmen at the University. It takes the name “CBN” because it is only open to departments that take lectures at the CBN lecture theatre. Science, health and tech departments are mostly the participating parties. It is currently held by the department of Veterinary Medicine skippered by Ojo Claudius in the previous session as they pipped the Akinade-captained Wood Products engineering side.

The tournament is a platform for freshmen to showcase their talents to their respective sports directors as well as the school team coach. The likes of Orodein (the tournament’s most valuable player), Afeez, Andrew, and MJ amongst others made name for themselves via this tournament.

Eligibility – 100-level departments using the CBN lecture theatre.

Other notable events to look forward to include: the respective HoDs and Deans cup; the Masters cup of the faculty of technology; and the Health cup of the College of Medicine.
