Independence Hall Sports Commisioner Oluwagbemiga Odunukan(AKA Bobby) inspired Inter Miami to victory over Manchester United in the maiden edition of the Independence Hall Club Fans World Cup on Monday, December 18.
After three days of gruelling football that witnessed tackles, battles, dribbles, poor officiating and, of course, goals, Inter Miami and Manchester United met in the final of the Inter-Fans Club World Cup.
Both teams had pretty smooth rides to the final, with Inter Miami producing results that even Lionel Messi would be proud of. They destroyed Al Nassr 9-3 in the first round and went on to demolish a hapless Barcelona side 7-2 in the semis.
On the other hand, Manchester United had to labour to beat Barcelona 5-4 in the first round. But they then destroyed Arsenal in the semis.
The final had the atmosphere of the Colosseum, as despite the Christmas holiday, many Katangites stayed back to watch the game.
The first half was a nice watch, with AY and Martin scoring for either side to make it 1-1 at the break. However, the second half saw more of tackles and fights. The referee, who had been poor all through the competition, failed to handle the game, and he ended up dishing out three yellow cards in the final.
Manchester United were the better team in the ending embers of the game, with Israel getting one-on-one opportunities with the goalkeeper, but he fluffed his line.
The game eventually dragged into penalties, and Bobby proved his quality. He saved three shots and scored the last kick to secure a 3-2 win for Inter Miami.
