The Nigerian Red Cross Society University of Ibadan Detachment in conjunction with the National Blood Transfusion Centre has on Tuesday 12th March 2024, held a blood donation drive event.

“The drive came up as a result of a tradition of the University of Ibadan Red Cross Detachment to hold a humanity week once a session”, the Deputy Commandant of UI Red Cross, Anthonio Oladimeji Gabriel told Indy Press correspondent.

“The whole idea is to give back to the community and the world at large” he added.

Each day of Humanity Week has a different activity, with the blood drive being held for Tuesday and a Leadership session for Monday.

He noted that the point of the drive was to aid the failing Nigerian health sector and save lives, citing the incident of the explosion in Bodija a few weeks back where people were called on to donate blood even at night.

As part of its activities for the Humanity Week, the Red Cross Society had also organized community outreach centres, at both Abadina and Love Garden, where members of the public had access to free health checks.

Humanity week is slated to end on the 16th of March, 2024.
