“NANS must organize students against wave of looming crisis” – UI Students’ Union Says

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has on Tuesday, 4th June, 2024 has called on the National Association of the Nigerian Students’, which is the apex students’ body in country at large, to organize students against the current and looming wave of crisis which the mass of students are faced with.

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union call on NANS at all levels to coordinate itself in defense of students’ welfare was featured in the Union’s public release stating its stance on the Nigeria Labour Congress strike action.

Signed jointly by the Students’ Union President and the General Secretary, Aweda Bolaji and Ogundijo Dolapo respectively, the Students’ Union urged both the National Association of Nigerian Students’(NANS), as the National Association of University Students’ (NAUS), to refrain from what its culture of factions, violence, and ceremonious jamboree.

“We call on the National Association of Nigerian Students’(NANS), as the National Association of University Students’ (NAUS), to refrain from their patterns of political party divisions, unwarranted violence, and ceremonial jamboree, and (but to) organize the Nigeria students against the looming wave of crisis that they face” the release reads.

The Union also firmly made it known that failure on the parts of NANS and NAUS to reposition themselves in the face of dire concerns students are faced with, will ‘ultimately culminate in the secession of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union from under their respective umbrellas’.
