In a statement signed by Abakpa Pius Ujadu, its national Coordinator, Activista Nigeria has expressed solidarity with three student activists at the University of Ibadan who are likely to face disciplinary action for protesting UI fee hike policy.
The student activists are Aduwo Ayodele, Nice Linus and Olamide Gbadegesin.
“Their demands reversing the unjust fee hike, ensuring non-interference in students’ union activities and ending the victimization of students exercising their rights, are legitimate and reasonable. The continued victimization of these students underscores the repressive environment they face in their fight for justice. Activista Nigeria strongly condemns the ongoing harassment of these student activists”, the statement reads.
The statement further pressed three demands which include, “an end to all harassment, intimidation, and threats against Aduwo Ayodele, Nice Linus, Olamide Gbadegesin, and all students involved in the protests; a transparent dialogue between the university administration and the students to address their concerns and grievances and an immediate reversal of the unjust fee increase to ensure affordable education for all students”.
Activista Nigeria is a non-governmental organization (NGO) focused on advocacy, activism, and community development in Nigeria, with a focus on promoting good governance and accountability, as well as advocate for human rights and social justice.
