The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has provided an update to the university community regarding the reported case of a University of Ibadan student who was declared missing while returning to campus from a fellowship conference in Imo State.
This was disclosed in an update notice signed by the Students’ Union President, Deboye Temidayo, on Friday, June 19, 2026.
“Immediately the matter came to the attention of the Union, the University Management was duly informed, and necessary engagements commenced with relevant stakeholders to facilitate every possible effort towards ensuring the student’s safe return,” the statement reads.
According to Deboye, the University Management has continued to liaise with the appropriate security agencies.
“We can also confirm that relevant security authorities, including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Sango Division, have been fully briefed and are aware of the situation. Necessary inter-state collaboration and communication are ongoing.”
He also revealed that engagement has been established with the national leadership of the Scripture Union to support ongoing efforts and ensure proper coordination throughout the process.
“Based on the latest update from the Scripture Union leadership, efforts towards the student’s safe rescue are progressing positively, and all parties involved remain committed to securing a safe and successful outcome,” he added.
The Students’ Union also urged members of the university community to remain calm, continue to keep the student and her family in their thoughts and prayers, and refrain from circulating unverified information that may hinder ongoing efforts.
The notice further stated that the Union remains in close communication with the University Management and other relevant stakeholders and will continue to provide verified updates as necessary.
Recall that reports emerged earlier this week that a female University of Ibadan student was declared missing while returning to campus which has since then prompted concerns across the university community.
