The Great Independence Hall of Residence has emerged victorious in its second-leg fixture against Idia Hall, with its first speaker, Israel Bolarinwa, named the Best Speaker of the round.
The second leg of the JAW WAR 2026 Inter-Hall category which was held on Saturday, September 5, at the New Faculty Lecture Theatre (NFLT), saw five halls advancing after their respective fixtures.
Indy Hall, which had also produced the Best Speaker in the first leg, maintained its dominance with a cumulative score of 82.4% against Idia Hall’s 71.7%. Indy had scored 81% in the first round, while Idia Hall recorded 68.6%.
Obafemi Awolowo Hall (Awo) defeated Kenneth Mellanby Hall with a cumulative score of 76.1% to 69.6%. Awo had recorded 76.05% in the first round, compared with Mellanby’s 72%.
Sultan Bello Hall also secured victory over Alexander Brown Hall (ABH), recording a cumulative score of 76.3% against ABH’s 74.97%.
In another fixture, Ransome Kuti Hall defeated Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall (Zik Hall) with a cumulative score of 76.3% to 73.7%, overturning Zik Hall’s 71.3% to 73.3% first-round advantage.
Lord Tedder Hall completed the victorious lineup after defeating Queen Elizabeth II Hall with a cumulative score of 79.9% to 66.7%. Tedder had recorded 78.6% against Queens’ 60.6% in the first round.
Alexander Brown Hall, despite losing to Bello, secured the Best Loser slot and will advance to the next stage of the competition.
