The University of Ibadan Students’ Union Electoral Commission (SUEC) has released the election calendar, nomination fees and guidelines for the 2026/2027 UI’SU election, IndyPress reports.

This is contained in a memorandum issued by the University’s Deputy Registrar (Students) and Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Francis A. Ayodele, on Friday, September 18, 2026.

“Following the inaugural meeting of the Electoral Commissioners held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, I hereby formally announce the commencement of the 2025/2026 Students’ Union electoral process,” the memo stated.

According to the memo, the lifting of the electoral ban and sensitisation is scheduled for Friday, September 18, 2026.

The collection and submission of electoral forms, as contained in the memorandum, will run from Monday, September 21, to Friday, October 2, 2026, with an extension included.

The background check of aspirants contesting for Students’ Union positions will commence on Friday, October 2, and end on Friday, October 16, 2026.

The electoral screening for Students’ Union positions is scheduled for Saturday, October 16, 2026.

According to the electoral commission, the Student Union press night is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, 2026, while the manifesto night and the election is slated for Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31, respectively.

Additionally, the collection and submission of electoral forms for SRC positions will run from October 21 to November 2, 2026. Following the submission of the forms, candidates’ background checks will be conducted on November 2, 2026.

The electoral screening for SRC positions will be held from Tuesday, November 3, to Wednesday, November 4, 2026, followed by the election scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026.

According to the memo, interested candidates are required to pay a nomination fee of ₦10,000 for the President of the Union, ₦8,000 for the Vice President, ₦7,000 for other executive positions and ₦3,000 for candidates vying for positions in the Students’ Representative Council.

The memo also outlined the eligibility criteria for students aspiring to contest for Students’ Union leadership positions at the University level.

According to the guidelines, nominees for University-level student leadership positions must not be in 100 level or their final year, while presidential aspirants are required to be in the penultimate academic year of their programmes.

The guidelines also stipulate that aspirants for Students’ Union executive positions, including the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Clerk of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00, equivalent to Second Class Honours Upper Division.

For other aspirants seeking positions in the SRC, the required minimum is a CGPA of 2.00 for students on a 4.00-point grading system and 2.50 for those on a 5.00-point grading system, both equivalent to Second Class Honours Lower Division, as of the time of nomination.

Students enrolled in programmes that do not operate a CGPA system will have their scores prorated to a CGPA for the purpose of determining eligibility.

The guidelines further require aspirants to have an unblemished record, stating that candidates must not have been convicted by the police, rusticated or expelled from any institution, ejected from a hall of residence or involved in substance abuse.

It added that aspirants must abide by the rule of law and be of sound mind.
