SPOTTED: Jedidah Temitope’s 3 Promised Initiatives And Gaps

By Morolani Oluwafemi

An independent review by IndyPress into Jedidah Temitope’s manifesto, a 300 level student of the department of Communication and Language Arts, contesting for the post of Public Relations Officer in the 2026 UI’SU election, has revealed three summary promises, as well as a fundamental silence on two constitutional issues.

Checks into Jedidah’s  manifesto showed that she promised a central information hub through a WhatsApp channel, WhatsApp groups, and LinkedIn; digital transformation and union branding; and the revitalization of archive and spotlight teams.

However, Jedidah’s manifesto failed to address two fundamental issues; one of which has shown deficiency in the union. The two issues – silence on LnD-related partnership as constitutionally required or its improvement and recent usurpation of publicity and publication dissemination role by general secretary and president – were left unaddressed despite their importance.

According to Chapter 4, Section 8, sub-section 8,of the Students’ Union constitution, the PRO of the Students’ Union.  shall work with the literary and debating societies in the University;shall make such press statements on behalf of the Union as deemed fit by the Executive Committee and in consultation with the President.

No Promised Commitment on LnD Partnership

Throughout her manifesto, Jedidah maintained silence on working with the literary and debating societies or even on how to improve the Union’s relationship with LnD society which all admitted students automatically belong to.

Silence on Constitutional Publicity Responsibilities

Her manifesto also failed to address a major constitutional breach that has become normalized through various administrations where the General Secretary and President of the union apparently usurps the role of the Public Relations Officer by releasing executive committee statements on behalf of the union- a duty which should be the ‘“making” of the PRO. Her manifesto made no plan for how to correct the constitutional breach.
