The Business Manager for Oyo Area of the United Bank for Africa, Mr Ayomide Babalola, has on Friday, February 9, 2024 sought the collaboration of the University of Ibadan in a bid to secure a good banking relationship.
Mr Babalola, who led a team to the University on a courtesy visit, explained that UBA as a financial institution was interested in how it could contribute to the University’s growth and development.
Mr. Babalola noted that UBA wishes to extend its corporate social responsibility to the institution because of the bank’s management passion for youth development and in response to the University’s call for an improved Town-Gown interaction.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, expressed delight at receiving the team given that the Bank’s GMD/CEO, Mr Oliver Alawuba, is an alumnus of the University, as well as a UI@75 Ambassador.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the Nigerian University system is at a threshold of changes, and federal universities are now able to relate with commercial banks, which they were unable to do before now, because of the Treasury Single Account.
Professor Adebowale said banks are very important to the universities, adding that because of the cordiality between the UBA and UI, a sub-committee would be set up immediately to work out the modalities.
