IndyPress Wins Overall Best Local Press Organization

IndyPress Organization, on Saturday, 4th of May, 2024, was bestowed the prestigious award as the Overall Best Local Press Organization (LPO) at the Awards and Dinner Night ceremony convened by the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan.

The dinner ceremony held at the U&I Building, opposite Queen Idia Hall of Residence, had in attendance several members of the Union of Campus Journalists from various press organizations.

As shown in an earlier release by the Union of Campus Journalists, five local press organizations were listed as contenders for the category; AFAS Press, Law Press, Mellanby Press, Indy Press, and Sultan Bello Hall Press.

Announcing the overall winner of the category, the Great Independence Hall Press Organization was announced the ‘Overall Best Local Press Organization’ for 2022/2023 academic session.

Reacting to the success of the organization, the immediate past Editor-in-Chief of IndyPress Organisation, and the recipient of another individual award, as the ‘Best Editor-in-Chief’ for the concluding academic session, Kelvin Omachonu noted that the hard work of the LPO was duly rewarded.

“Well, it is just a testament to the kind of work that we put in this session. I am happy that we continued with the culture of being the best press organization in UI and hopefully, we’d continue like this in the coming years” Kelvin Omachonu said.

At the event, individual awards were presented to the following campus journalists as recognition for their outstanding performances in the session.

Best Investigation Writer — Aduwo Ayodele (IndyPress)

News Reporter and Best Entertainment Writer — Eriomala John (IndyPress)

Best Health Writer — Ogunyemi Victor (IndyPress)

Best Politics Writer — Utibe Emmanuel (IndyPress)

Best Features Writer — Tolulope Ayeye (IndyPress)

Most Promising Campus Journalist — Yusuf Ramon (IndyPress)

Campus Journalist of the Year — Habeeb Abdul (IndyPress)

Most Outstanding UCJ Editor — Christian Odo Obinna (LawPress)

Best Sports Writer — Peter Adeyemo (UIMSA Press)

Best Story — Edem Odofia (Kuti Press)

Best Satire — Christain Odo Obinna (LawPress)

Also the immediate past Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IndyPress, Habeeb Abdul, alongside Hikmah Tiamiyu of Agropress, Akinjide Adebowale of Zik Press and Oyelami Emmanuel of Mellanby Press, were awarded the prizes as the Best Graduating Campus Journalists by the Union of Campus Journalists, UI (UCJ).

The prize, received by the former IndyPress Deputy Editor-in-Chief, alongside others, consisted of a plaque, 6 books vouchers and a cash prize.
