The University of Ibadan Students’ Union on Thursday, 26th September, 2024, called for an exclusive meeting to discuss the review of transportation rates on campus.
Its public memo, jointly signed by the Students’ Union President, Aweda Bolaji and the House Secretary, Elemide Daniel, highlighted that the expected attendees at the meeting include faculty presidents, hall chairpersons, transportation committee members of the Students’ Representative Council, among others.
“This is to inform you that a meeting has been scheduled to discuss pertinent matters on campus,” the notice reads.
The exclusive meeting will be held today, Friday 27th September 2024, 4PM, at the SRC chambers.
Shortly after the official release, at 8:10 pm on Thursday evening, the Students’ Union President, Aweda Bolaji took to his Whatsapp status to state that the price review would have been effected but for the three weeks break that had occurred.
“The fuel price increase to about 1k per liter has seen prices of transactions go up everywhere in the country but prices in UI have remained the same because we said the increase can’t happen while we are on break,” Aweda Bolaji posted.
“Tomorrow makes it a week after our resumption and representatives of different bodies will be meeting to review the price of transportation on campus,” he added.
Stating ahead of the meeting, Aweda Bolaji notified the public, through his Whatsapp status, to expect an upward review.
“You can be sure your leaders will represent you, but please expect an upward review,” Aweda Bolaji concluded his Whatsapp post.
