Erudite Professor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Oyewusi Gureje, has been ranked as Nigeria’s number one scientist by the AD scientific Index.

The Professor of Psychiatry at the college of Medicine, University of Ibadan, was ranked at the top spot after getting an H-index score of 128 and an i10 score of 433 which are the highest for a scientist in Nigeria this year. He also has over a hundred thousand citations which makes him Nigeria’s one of most cited scientists.

Professor Gureje is a globally recognized expert in mental health research, known for his significant contributions to psychiatric classification, the intersection of mental and physical health, the cross-cultural study of mental disorders, aging in sub-Saharan Africa, and the development of integrated mental health services.

Among scientists, he is ranked 24th in Africa and 3353rd globally. He has also been ranked among the top 1% of psychiatrists globally over the last decade.

Other professors from the University of Ibadan that made the top ten list of scientists in Nigeria include; Professor Mayowa Owalabi (Professor of Neurology) and Dr Olayinka Stephen Ilesanmi (Department of Community Medicine).
