The University of Ibadan Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Peter O. Olapegba, has charged newly appointed academic staff to uphold the institution’s tradition of excellence by demonstrating integrity and professionalism in all aspects of their academic work and research.
He made this assertion while speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, at the opening ceremony of a two-day onboarding training workshop organised for the second batch of 300 newly appointed academic staff.
Speaking, Professor Olapegba urged the new lecturers to contribute actively to preserving and strengthening the institution’s legacy through commitment, professionalism, and adherence to its core values.
He disclosed that the staff members were carefully selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates. He attested to their appointment as a testament to their academic achievements and potential, as well as the confidence the university reposes in their ability to contribute meaningfully to its vision.
“Academic staff at the university are evaluated on the grounds of teaching, research, and community service,” he noted, stressing that outstanding performance in these areas is essential for career growth and the continued advancement of the institution.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor also emphasised the importance of innovation, interdisciplinarity, and relevance to societal needs. He encouraged the new staff to make the most of the onboarding programme, which was designed to equip them with the tools, information, and support needed to succeed in their roles.
He described the programme as a valuable opportunity for participants to understand the institution’s expectations and their responsibilities as academic staff.

The workshop, featuring six facilitators, was organised by the Research Management Office (RMO) to strengthen the capacity of the newly employed staff and equip them with the knowledge and skills required to contribute to the enduring tradition of excellence at the University of Ibadan.
