For Immediate Release
Ibadan, Nigeria July 2, 2026 — IndyPress UI, the University of Ibadan’s foremost Campus based press organisation, has announced a strategic partnership with FactCheckAfrica to strengthen fact-based journalism and promote a culture of verification amid the growing spread of misinformation, particularly within the student community.
This partnership aligns with growing demand for greater accountability and media integrity in reporting.
Under the partnership, FactCheckAfrica will conduct structured verification workshops in collaboration with the IndyPress Fact-Checking Desk. The programme will equip campus journalists amd interested students with practical skills in verification, source evaluation, OSINT techniques, claim selection, and professional fact-checking standards aligned with the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) principles.
Together, the partnership reinforces IndyPress’ commitment to producing credible, evidence-based journalism that not only informs but also drives positive change by reducing the spread of misinformation.
“This partnership is one of the ways IndyPress is contributing to the fight against misinformation within our society, particularly among students. We’ve identified a problem within the demography of our audience. Despite how tech-savvy as we appear, many students still fall victim to false information because of the tendency to share or react to content before verifying how true and accurate it is”, IndyPress Editor-in-Chief, Gbayesola Samuel said.
“By leveraging the expertise and experience of FactCheckAfrica, IndyPress will strengthen its fact-checking capacity while encouraging responsible journalism beyond the newsroom. Our goal is to help build a student community where critical thinking and verification become everyday habits” he added.
“This partnership represents an important step in strengthening the culture of verification where it matters most—among young people who are both major consumers and producers of information. At FactCheckAfrica, we believe that combating misinformation goes beyond debunking false claims; it requires equipping people with the skills to question, verify, and think critically before sharing information.
By working with the IndyPress Fact-Checking Desk, we are investing in a new generation of journalists and student leaders who will uphold accuracy, accountability, and ethical reporting. We are excited about the impact this collaboration will have in fostering a more informed campus community and advancing the broader fight against misinformation across Africa.” – Habeeb Adisa, Editorial Lead, FactCheck Africa.
