By Effiom Emmanuel
“Every nation, every revolution, every turning point in history began with one thing: a voice.”
A voice is powerful, they say.
A voice is hope, they preach.
A voice builds nations, they claim.
A voice breeds confidence, they whisper.
And a voice is the foundation, they believe.
But why is my voice suppressed?
Why have they cast mine into an abyss?
Why am I forced into silence
simply for daring to speak?
I was told my voice could build nations.
I was reminded that I had power.
But why have they taken it all away?
Why do they speak while I wither in silence?
Why have they destroyed the foundations
and pillars they once swore to build?
Why does their whisper feel louder
than my scream?
I could ask a thousand whys,
yet it would not change the truth—
that my voice alone is drowned.
But when our voices merge,
forming a melody too powerful to ignore,
only then will they listen.
Only then
will our voices
begin to build.
