The former Administrator General of Independence Hall, Peculiar Adedeji, is to appear before the University of Ibadan Students’ Disciplinary Council over the alleged mismanagement of funds earmarked for the renovation of the hall’s football pitch.
The disclosure was made by the Hall Warden, Dr. Solomon Adekunle Odedokun, during Independence Hall’s town hall meeting on Monday, where he informed residents that the matter is before the SDC and that another hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
“Peculiar is having a case with the Students’ Disciplinary Council (SDC) over the alleged mismanagement of the sum of ₦10 million meant for the renovation of the hall’s Marcana football pitch. Another day for him is on Wednesday,” Dr. Odedokun said.
The disciplinary proceedings relate to allegations surrounding the handling of funds earmarked for the renovation of the hall’s football pitch, popularly known as San Siro, which has remained a subject of controversy within the hall community.
The revelation comes months after IndyPress reported allegations of financial irregularities against the Peculiar Adedeji-led Independence Hall Executive Council.
The report detailed claims that funds donated by Independence Hall alumni for the renovation of the football pitch were not transparently managed, with petitioners questioning the handling of the funds and the quality of the renovation work carried out on the facility.
Before the petition was filed, the renovation project had already attracted public scrutiny following delays in the reopening of the facility. At the time, hall officials attributed the delay to an audit process involving the contractor handling the project.
The development also follows earlier disciplinary action against the hall leadership. In October 2025, the Independence Hall Legislative Council suspended Adedeji for seven days over what it described as confirmed financial irregularities, administrative negligence, and defiance of constituted authority.
While details of the ongoing SDC proceedings remain unclear, Dr. Odedokun’s disclosure indicates that the University has commenced disciplinary proceedings into the allegations. The outcome of the process could determine whether any sanctions or further actions will be taken.
