The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has announced the death of Mr. Adedeji Stephen Adedayo, a final-year student in the Department of Science and Technology Education, Faculty of Education.
This was disclosed in a statement co-signed by the Students’ Union President, Deboye Temidayo, and the General Secretary, Joshua O. Shontan, on Saturday, August 1, 2026.
“We received the heartbreaking news that Stephen, who was admitted to the University College Hospital (UCH) on Monday, sadly passed away yesterday despite efforts made towards his care,” the statement read.
On behalf of the entire student body, the Union extended its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, classmates, the Department of Science and Technology Education, and all those grieving this painful loss.
According to the statement, a candlelight procession will be held on Monday at 5PM, during which members of the University community are expected to come together to honour his memory, pay their last respects, and stand in solidarity with his loved ones.
“We encourage all students to keep his family and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers, praying that they are granted the strength and comfort to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement added.
