LSS UI President Ademola Ajakaye Kicks Out Two Students for Sharing Opponent’s Campaign Flyer in Association’s WhatsApp Group

The President of the Law Students’ Society (LSS), University of Ibadan, Ademola Adebodun Ajakaye, has removed two students from association WhatsApp groups after they shared a campaign flyer of another candidate in vying for a position in the UI SU election, IndyPress reports.

According to information gathered by IndyPress on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the students were allegedly removed for campaigning for a candidate contesting against a law student for the UISU presidency.

Speaking with IndyPress, one of the affected students, a 400 level Law student who requested anonymity, said the issue began after he shared his preferred candidate’s flyer following the Jaw War event.

“It happened that I posted the flyer of my candidate who is not a Law student. The night after Jaw War. That was the first this season putting out anything about the SU elections,” he said.

He said he received several messages from classmates and friends about the post and also spoke with the law student contesting for the UISU presidency to explain his position.

“I even had a conversation with the candidate to clarify that I had nothing against him and I was just being liberal with my decision. I even told him I wasn’t going to work against him because we shared a common factor and are friends,” he said.

He added that his actions were subsequently interpreted as showing a lack of interest in the elections.

Explaining why he shared the flyer in his class WhatsApp group, the student said he had spoken with some classmates who were yet to identify reasons to support his preferred candidate, Abiola.

“Today, I posted for the VERY FIRST TIME my candidates flyer to the class group because I had a conversation with some of my classmates this evening and the conclusion was that they haven’t gotten a reason why they should vote Abiola as President,” he said.

According to him, the class representative and the LSS president first deleted his message without prior notice or warning before removing him and the other student who shared the flyer in the Law Students’ Society group.

“I think that for this to happen at this crucial time in this year’s student Union election and as the first reaction of the President and face of the Law Students Society, just places a spotlight on the intention of the LSS in this year’s election,” he added.

Similarly, the second affected student said he was removed from faculty WhatsApp groups after sharing Abiola’s campaign flyer in his class group.

“I sent Abiola’s Flyer to my class group and I was removed from all my Faculty groups after that,” he said.

He also said he received no prior warning or notice before his removal.

LSS President Responds

An inquiry by IndyPress to the LSS president for comment did not yield a substantive response, as he declined to address the allegations directly.

In his response to IndyPress, Ajakaye said the reporter should first seek an explanation from his own hostel concerning the removal of a fellow Katangite from the Katangite group.

“Dear Samuel, thanks for reaching out. Kindly do me the honours of going back to your hostel, that which you come from and seek their reason on removal of fellow katangite on the kantagite group,” he said.

“After you do this or any of your cohort does, then come back to my DM to seek this comment.”

“If you do not do this, respect yourself by not coming to my dm and go face your studies. Thank you,” he added.
