The management of the University of Ibadan has decried claim that the institution is running free online courses.

The University of Ibadan made this public disclaimer, through a statement issued by the University registrar and Secretary to the Senate, Mr. Ganiyu Saliu.

A copy of the statement obtained by IndyPress on Thursday described the claim as untrue.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Management of the University of Ibadan has been drawn to an online advertisement for free certification courses supposedly available online with which laptops and certificates are provided by the University of Ibadan.”

“The Management wishes to disclaim this advertisement! All courses for which certificates of the University of Ibadan are awarded are usually considered and approved by the Senate of the University, and free online certification courses were not approved by UI Senate.”

“This information is not also from the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre. The Centre’s collaboration with EDUREX Consult , for short-term certification in various professional programmes at the Centre’s Bodija Office, is certainly not free, and no one is collecting a free laptop” the statement further reads.

The University management ultimately advised members of the general public not to allow themselves to be scammed.
