SUEC Releases UI’SU Election Guidelines

The Students’ Union Electoral Commission, University of Ibadan has released, through a virtual document, stipulated guidelines for the 2024 Students’ Union election.

The guidelines state that campaigns were to start on the 10th of March and end on the 19th of April by 11:59pm.

It also stated that electioneering campaigns are expected to be free of violence, while admonishing aspirants to avoid defacing school walls.

“Disobedience to these guidelines, or any other rules by the electoral committee, would attract sanctions,” the statement reads.

According to the release, eight executive positions were available for every interested individual, while seats for students’ representatives in the Students’ Representative Council (UI’SRC) from each hall were open to any student interested.

The price for the presidential form was fixed at six thousand naira (#6,000); Vice President five thousand (#5,000); three thousand five hundred naira #3,500 was fixed for other executive positions; and the sum of two thousand five hundred naira (#2,500) was fixed as nomination form into the SRC.

The document outlined some requirements that aspirants needed to satisfy, including not being in either 100 level or final year, as executives must be on a 3.0 CGPA, with SRC aspirants required to have a minimum of 2.0 CGPA.

“Those in programmes not operating the CGPA system will have their scores prorated to CGPA for the purpose of the election,” SUEC clarified.

The Electoral Commission also announced that nomination forms can be picked up at Room 22, Student Affairs Building.
