The Provost of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Professor Temidayo Olusade Ogundiran, has urged students to be more patient with the authorities and return to their hostels, on Thursday, 13th of February, 2025, at the University College Hospital.
Professor Temidayo noted this while he was addressing the aggrieved students, following a lengthy deliberation with the Oyo State Police Command, the chief Medical Director, UCH and the Provost of the College of Medicine.
According to him, after 104 days of blackout, this situation “is just a temporary eclipse. Yes, we acknowledge and appreciate that this has been there for a hundred days plus. But I can assure you by the grace of God that the end is in sight.”
He also mentioned that following the intervention of the Minister of Power, the restoration is to happen in phases, with priority given to clinical areas. “You will all agree with me, especially those who are medical personnel, that patient’s care is number one.”
He equally explained that IBEDC does not distinguish between the beneficiaries of the power supply and only has customer-relations with UCH and not the halls of residence directly.
According to the agreement reached with IBEDC, the restoration is to happen in phases, however, when asked for a specific date, he said “I wish I could put a point, and say [specifically] tomorrow, but I cannot say. All I can assure you of is that the VC of the University of Ibadan and the management of the College of Medicine, and the Oyo State Police Command, will be having a meeting with IBEDC soon.”
While speaking, an uproar arose from the disgruntled students, the Provost warned that the students should be “mindful of what you say because we are hearing what you say, especially those of you in the College of Medicine.”
As at press time, the SU leaders and other stakeholders are divided in groups, discussing.
