The installation of solar panels is ongoing at the Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan, IndyPress reports.

The installed solar panels currently power only the lighting in corridors, reading rooms, bathrooms, and the gents’ restrooms in the A and B-Block axis of the hall.

The current installation is not addressed to rooms and kitchenettes, IndyPress observed.

As of press time, the installation has also not been expanded to the C and D-Block constituencies of the hall.

In an interview with IndyPress, the Administrator-General of the hall, Olaniyan Olamilekan Ibrahim, clarified that the installation was planned in two phases and assured that it would be expanded to the C and D-Block constituencies of the hall.

“Yes, it is going to be installed in C and D-Blocks. It is in phases because of the financial strength of the project. We are going to do A-Block and B-Block first, then move to C-Block and D-Block in the second phase,” Olamilekan Ibrahim clarified.

A broadcast message by the Hall Public Relations Officer, Adekanmbi Ezekiel, noted that the step was towards improving security and convenience in the hall.

“At the beginning of this session, we identified security concerns, especially in poorly lit areas. After discussions with the hall management and our earlier requests, we’re excited to announce the commencement of Phase 1 of the Light Up Katanga Project!”

“Solar panels are being installed, and lights are now fixed across all corridors and reading rooms. A & B Blocks are completed, and C Block will follow soon. This is a major step towards improving security and convenience in our hall.”

“We appreciate the hall management for their support and remain committed to pushing for more improvements. Your welfare remains our utmost priority.”
