The President of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union, Deboye Temidayo, has asserted that the recent court judgment concerning the victimised UI3 may not have involved all parties in the proceedings.
He made this known during the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) first ordinary sitting held at the SRC Chamber, Kunle Adepeju Building, University of Ibadan on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
“Regarding the three students who were victimised last session and went through court trials, further jurisdiction on that issue is ongoing,” he said.
The Union President further disclosed that, based on information relayed by the Vice-Chancellor, the university was not present at the court sitting where the judgment was delivered.
“Yesterday, while I was with the Student Union House Secretary, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the university itself was not present in court,” he stated.
According to him, a judgment should not be passed in the absence of one of the parties involved.
“I believe the court only passed judgment on one person, according to the letter the Vice-Chancellor showed me,” he added.
He maintained that the matter remains under the jurisdiction of both the university management and the Federal High Court.
“We are still working on it, but as of this moment, there is no resolution that we can publicly announce, to avoid further confusion among students,” he said.
Deboye also noted that he was not carried along in the legal process.
However, contrary to his claims, Nice Linus, one of the affected students, earlier stated that efforts to collaborate with the Union for mobilisation during the court proceedings received no response.
In an interview with UCJ UI, Aduwo Ayodele, one of the reinstated students, clarified that although the Vice-Chancellor was absent at the ruling, the university was duly represented throughout the case.
“The VC and the University of Ibadan have been represented jointly by the same lawyer,” he said, adding that “a female lawyer represented them on the judgment day,” and that “the judgment firmly stands.”
Recall that the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan ordered the reinstatement of Aduwo Ayodele and Mide Gbadegesin, who were rusticated by the University’s Central Student Disciplinary Committee over a protest against fee hikes.
The Union’s response follows criticism over its silence in the days after the court ruling.
