Students Raise Concerns Over UI Post-UTME Schedule for Underage Candidates

Prospective candidates for the University of Ibadan’s “Underage” admission category has expressed concerns following the release of the Post-UTME screening schedule.

The screening, designated for candidates under the age of 16, is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the University’s Distance Learning Centre (DLC), Shasha, Ibadan.

However, the development has triggered significant concern due to a scheduling clash with the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Official WAEC timetables confirm that the Biology 2 (Essay) and Biology 1 (Objective) papers are also scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2026, beginning at 9:30 AM

This development has placed candidates in an impossible position. With the examination venue located in Ibadan, some applicants who could possibly be residing outside the city now face the logistical challenge of participating in both the screening exercise and the national examination.

The situation has sparked widespread distress among the affected students, who are now turning to social media and peer groups to seek guidance on how to navigate this conflict.

”I’m an underage candidate who applied to UI and got a message about the post UTME saying I should come on Tuesday. Yet I have a WAEC exam on Tuesday. Any advice would be appreciated,” one candidate shared in a student forum.

Students, tutorial centers and concerned stakeholders have noted the short notice provided, with the registration portal opening on June 12 and the examination holding on June 16. This leaves little room for candidates to navigate these competing academic commitments.

Reacting to the conflict in exam date, a  tutor of Post-utme tutorial said ”I feel UI will shift this exam for underage candidates, because some are actually not living in Ibadan,” a notice from a tutorial center stated, emphasizing the impracticality of the current timeline. “There’s no way they’d write the Biology WAEC exam on Tuesday except there’s a possible rescheduling from the WAEC side.”

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the University of Ibadan management addressing the possibility of an alternative date for candidates affected by the WASSCE timetable.
