The Technology and Engineering Students’ Association (TESA) Electoral Commission has fined Adenodi Faith, an aspirant for the office of President of the Faculty of Technology, ₦20,000 after finding him guilty of electoral offences.
This was disclosed in a notice signed by the TESA Electoral Commission Chairman, Jokomba Quyum, and the General Secretary, Hassan Wasiu, on Friday, June 26, 2026.
“Adenodi Faith, a 400-level student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and an aspirant for the post of President of the Faculty of Technology, was found guilty of the following offences during the screening exercise conducted on June 25, 2026,” the notice reads.
According to the commission, the presidential aspirant failed to resign from his position as a member of the University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council (SRC), contrary to Section 1.1 of the Electoral Commission Rules and Guidelines.
The section states: “Any TESA ordinary member wishing to contest at any TESA election shall have resigned any previous affiliated political appointments, and such resignation shall have been made public before the close of nominations.”
The Electoral commission also alleged that the aspirant backdated a resignation letter prepared on June 25, 2026, to make it appear as though it had been prepared on June 12, 2026. It further claimed that although he stated the letter was submitted on June 12, records showed it was actually submitted at 4:02 p.m. on June 25, 2026.
It was noted that these actions fell short of the standards expected of students of the Faculty of Technology.
“The TESA Electoral Commission maintains that UITES must embody the ‘In Character and Learning’ mantra of the University. A leader seeking the highest office in the faculty must embody these principles above all others,” the notice stated.
However, citing an established precedent from the previous electoral year and the need to ensure a viable leadership transition within the faculty, the commission resolved to impose a fine of ₦20,000 instead of immediately disqualifying the presidential aspirant.
The commission directed that the fine be paid into the faculty purse before 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, warning that failure to meet the deadline would result in immediate disqualification from the election.
“Failure to meet this exact deadline will result in immediate disqualification as a candidate in this election. Upon confirmation of payment before the 2:00 p.m. deadline, you are hereby invited to be officially screened by the TESA Electoral Commission at 3:00 p.m. today, Friday, June 26, 2026,” it added.
