The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has clarified the university’s decision to adopt a 13-week lecture schedule for the current semester, following enquiries from students over the duration of lectures in the academic calendar.

This was disclosed in a memo co-signed by the Students’ Union President, Deboye Temidayo, and the General Secretary, Joshua O. Shontan, on Monday, July 13, 2026.

“The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has received enquiries from students regarding the 13-week lecture period reflected in the academic calendar, spanning Monday, July 13, 2026, to Friday, October 9, 2026,” the memo read.

According to the union, the extended lecture period is intended to provide adequate time for effective teaching, learning, and comprehensive coverage of course content, thereby ensuring a balanced academic session.

The union also encouraged students to make the most of the period by remaining committed to their academic activities.

“Students are therefore encouraged to take advantage of this period by remaining committed to their academic activities and making the most of the available time,” the memo added.

Recall that in recent sessions, the university adopted an 11-week lecture schedule to recover time lost to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and prolonged nationwide strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
