Following Gas Policy Update, UI Begins Installing Fire Extinguishers Across Halls of Residence

The University of Ibadan has commenced the installation of fire extinguishers across halls of residence as part of ongoing safety measures following the implementation of its gas usage policy.

Installation began Thursday, July 23, 2026 with work currently underway across the university’s undergraduate halls of residence.

Recall that on Thursday, following an IndyPress report, the University of Ibadan Students’ Union issued a statement providing an update on its gas approval policy for students residing in the halls.

Information gathered by IndyPress indicates that installation has been completed in some halls, while work is still ongoing in others.

An observation by IndyPress at the Great Independence Hall showed that fire extinguishers have been installed on every floor. While some floors have two extinguishers positioned at opposite ends of the corridor, others currently have only one.
