The Nigerian music industry is known to be a very entertaining and successful industry. Many artistes have come and gone, but there are still many rising stars in the industry today. Here are my top five:

Omah Lay

Omah Lay needs no introduction. He burst into the music scene in the year 2020 with the release of his EP Get Layd. Get Layd was a hit. It contained hit singles like Bad Influence, Damn, Yeyeye and so on.

Omah Lay built on the success of that EP to release another hit single named What Have We done? It was another masterclass. Omah Lay came to the music industry with a different class and finesse. He recently won the award for the Next Rated Artiste at the Headies. His voice, tone and music are on a whole different level, and these are the reasons why he ranks among my top five.

Tems

Tems is a different breed of artiste. Tems’ voice and sound are incredibly amazing.  She came into limelight after the release of her hit single Try Me. The song had a different sound. Her unique way of singing has made her stand out in the music industry. She released her first EP “For Broken Ears” last year, and it was a smashing success. She was also featured on Wizkid’s album Made in Lagos. She featured on the track “Essence” on the album. She was also nominated for the Headies Next Rated Award, among other awards.

Oxlade

Oxlade is another tremendous talent in the music industry. He burst onto the scene with his hit song Away. He has gone on to wow the music industry with his talent. Oxlade’s songs are very relatable, and his tone and sound are very unique and different. His hard work last year earned him a place in the nomination of the Headies Next Rated Award.

Zinoleesky

Zinoleesky is signed onto Naira Marley’s record label. Many people regard Zinoleesky as a street artiste but he is much more than that. Although he renders most of his songs in his native language (Yoruba), his songs still stand apart. His journey into fame began with the release of his hit song Ma Pariwo in 2020. This single was in the top 10 Nigerian songs several weeks after its release. He released another single “Kilofeshe” not long after which also became a mega hit.

Bella Shmurda

Bella Shmurda is another banging new artiste. His journey into fame started with the release of his mega hit song CashApp. CashApp became a new street anthem almost immediately after its release. He featured Zlatan and Lincoln on the song. He went on to release Dagbana Orisa after that song. That song was also hit. Triumphant, the song he was featured on by Olamide was also very nice. His recently released single Rush is fast becoming a hit. Bella Shmurda is an artiste to watch out for. His talent also earned him a nomination in the Headies Next Rated Award.

The list of Nigeria’s rising music stars is by no means exhaustive, as the country boasts of countless musical talents. However, these five musicians are my ultimate rising stars.
