The 4th edition of the Roseline Etuokwu Sigma National Secondary School Quiz Competition was held at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, Ibadan on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, as Ambassador’s College, emerged as the defending champion.
Bearing the theme, “Empowering the Next Generation: Knowledge, Innovation, and Leadership” participants at the event cut across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Sigma Club is the oldest Students’ Organisation in Sub-Saharan Africa dedicated to building men with a self-drive to make positive impacts in Nigeria and in the world at large.
The event was graced by dignitaries like the University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, represented by Prof Olakunbi Olasope; representatives of His Excellency, Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State; Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate majority leader of the current assembly in Nigeria, and some other dignitaries.
The battle royale saw six of Nigeria’s secondary schools, each representing a geopolitical zone in the country engage in a contest that pushed the boundaries of knowledge and ingenuity.
At its end, six geopolitical zonal winners emerged, they are, Bayelsa (Deeper Life High School), Niger (Federal Government Academy), Ogun (The Ambassador’s College), Gombe (Gombe High School), Anambra (Christ the King College), and Zamfara (Al Qalam Science Academy) in the Use of English, Mathematics and General Studies.
Overall, Ambassadors College, Ota, Ogun State emerged the winner, while Gombe High School, Gombe and Al Qalam Science Academy, Gusau emerged second and third runner-up respectively.
Their triumph earned them a cash prize of one million, seven hundred thousand and five hundred thousand naira respectively, as well as a trophy to the winner, plaques to the first-three, individual medals to the first-three, consolation prizes to others, and certificates of participation for all.
“This competition will set a new standard for intellectual excellence in Nigeria, inspiring a new generation of young minds to strive for greatness, and will be an opportunity for the students to learn, grow and foster good relationships among themselves” Old Sigmite Ganni Adeniran, the Chairman of the Day said.
