The Civic Club, University of Ibadan, on Saturday, 10th August 2024, has held a cleanup service, under the tagged name ‘The Green Project’, aimed at bringing members of the University-wide community together to clean up litters and improve the overall environment of a community.

The cleanup service which was set to commence at 11 am was geared towards creating awareness about environmental degradation and the impact of climate change, creating awareness about cholera disease and fostering unity of the University-wide community.

Members of the Club who participated in the environmental engagement covered areas within the University of Ibadan such as the University main gate, Lander road, Jaja axis, S.U.B, as well as the surrounding vicinity around Sultan Bello Hall of Residence.

Speaking to IndyPress, the President of the Club, Favour Bamijoko explained that the action was necessitated by the need to contribute to the University community.

“The Green Project was just an initiative by the Civic Club to create a means through which the club could engineer students to give back to the society by performing their civic duty,” the President said.

“One of the civic duties of us as citizens is ensuring or promoting cleaning and hygiene, as well as putting hands on deck towards maintaining the ecological health of the earth. It’s against this backdrop that the Civic Club carried out this exercise,” the President added.

Also, members of the club visited the Students’ Union Executive Council to discuss the need on the part of the leadership to foster  measures that will help incorporate the students community into participatory roles in a bid to improve the University-wide hygiene.
