The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale on Monday, December 16 2024, reiterated that the University has always been committed to providing platforms where discourses are initiated and analysed both for knowledge production and policy formulation.
The Vice-chancellor said these experiences have continued to enrich the University’s knowledge repository, helping to maintain its position as the country’s intellectual capital.
Professor Adebowale made these statements in a welcome address delivered on his behalf by the Dean Faculty of Arts, Professor S. O. Oyetade at the 7th Annual Senator Abiola Ajimobi Roundtable organised by the Senator Abiola Ajimobi Foundation (SAAF) in collaboration with the Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies (IPSS) of the University of Ibadan.
The Vice-Chancellor said the Roundtable would enable participants to reflect on the life of Late Senator Ajimobi, whom he described as a dear friend of the University of Ibadan.
Professor Adebowale recalled that Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi, whose leadership of Oyo State revitalised a focused, futuristic, and people centred government, exuded the core values of a true democrat who strove hard to deliver on his electoral promises, constitutionally challenged electoral injustice and accepted defeats.
He said the University of Ibadan would always be happy and ready to collaborate with SAAF to celebrate the legacy of the hero of democracy.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the IPSS for its highly enterprising activities in the field of research and community engagements, which he said had resulted in many positive outcomes and has continued to keep the general public abreast of the prospects and challenges of Nigeria’s democratic governance.
Earlier, the President of SAAF, Dr Florence Ajimobi, had led a team to pay a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor.
She appreciated the University of Ibadan for the collaboration, which had helped to honour and keep the memories of late Senator Abiola Ajimobi fresh in the minds of the people.
