The Administrator General of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, Obinelo Folorunsho Chisom, has removed Sulaimon Afees from Indy Hall groups over his support for a candidate not endorsed by the hall.
The development followed the Elders’ Council’s decision to remove him as its treasurer on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Speaking with IndyPress, Obinelo attributed the decision to an alleged violation of established rules guiding content shared on the hall’s platforms, particularly political flyers.
“As regards his removal from the Indy groups, there are established rules guiding the content circulated on our platforms, particularly political flyers. Such materials are expected not to undermine the interests, unity, or collective image of Great Independence Hall,” he said.
Obinelo stated that the decision was intended to protect the interests of the hall and was not targeted at any individual.
“The decision to remove him followed a breach of these existing guidelines. These rules are not targeted at any individual, but are intended to ensure that our platforms are managed responsibly and that the interests of the Hall are protected at all times,” he added.
Obinelo further added that Afees could be readmitted into the groups after apologising to the hall’s Public Relations Officer and agreeing to abide by the established guidelines.
“He is required to tender an apology to the Hall’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) for violating the established rules and demonstrate a willingness to abide by the guidelines going forward. Upon fulfilling this requirement, he can be readmitted into the groups,” he said.
He added that every Katangite remained welcome to participate in the affairs of the hall, provided such participation respected its established rules and collective interests.
Recall that similar occurrence was reported by IndyPress, where the Law student society president removed two law students from class groups over campaigning for an opposing candidate.
