A Concerned UIte has expressed displeasure over campaign activities allegedly conducted by some Zikites in the ladies’ halls of residence at about 1:30 AM.
This was disclosed in an open letter addressed to the students’ community, the Students’ Union Electoral Committee (SUEC), Hall Warden, Dean of Students, and Deputy Registrar (Student) on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
According to the letter, the concerned students expressed displeasure over the campaign activities, describing them as a disregard for the established 12:00 midnight hostel closure and the ongoing examination period.
“The worst part of it all is that these Zikites even went into lecture theatres to make the same noise. The lecture theatres had been opened for students to do night reading, and the best thing they needed at that point was tranquillity. Yet they carried their drums in and disturbed students who were trying to bring all their minds to concentrate and read,” the letter stated.
The letter further identified the reported campaign activities as being in support of OYEKOLA, who is contesting for General Secretary; Makeek (Plug), who is contesting for House Secretary; and Gbolahan (Peak), who is contesting for Sports Director.
It raised concerns about respect for hostel regulations, students’ privacy, and the peace female students deserve in their residences.
“It is deeply troubling that, while students are sacrificing sleep to prepare for examinations, campaign activities could continue at such an hour. What kind of leadership puts electoral ambition above the comfort and academic welfare of fellow students? Such actions risk portraying desperation and selfishness rather than the discipline and consideration expected of aspiring leaders.”
It consequently appealed to the Electoral Committee and the university management to investigate the matter.

SUEC Responds
Speaking with IndyPress, the Students Union Electoral Commission Logistics and planning Chairman, Agboola Oluwaseyi Ezekiel stated that the committee will look into it.
“Thanks for reaching out. The letter has been forwarded to the commissioners group. We’d discuss it in the next meeting and give our take on the matter,” he said.
