Over 48 hours after electricity went off on Saturday, June 20, 2026, students residing in the Ring 5 axis, including Independence Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall, Obafemi Awolowo Hall, Bello Hall, and several private hostels, are yet to experience power restoration.
Recall that earlier this week, concerns were raised by students over the persistent electrical challenges affecting the Ring 5 axis, a situation that became even more pronounced during the ongoing examination period.
Reports gathered by IndyPress indicate that more than three different electrical faults were recorded within the last week.
Speaking on the situation on Monday, June 22, 2026, the Students’ Union House Secretary, Oluwatimilehin Tifase through a whatsapp update explained that the electrical fault affecting the axis was more severe than initially anticipated.
“The electrical issue affecting Ring 5 is quite severe. Although repairs were carried out yesterday and power was restored, a fault around Balewa caused electricity from the Ring 5 axis to trip the entire campus supply.
“This was why power did not reach Ring 5 last night. Repair work started this morning and is currently ongoing,” he said.
He further noted that the fault prevented electricity from being restored to the affected areas despite repair efforts carried out on Sunday.
Also late at night, he also noted that the power trippled off despite repair attempts.

As of the time of filing this report, electricity had yet to be restored to the affected halls and hostels.
Efforts by IndyPress to obtain further clarification from the Students’ Union House Secretary on why the issue persisted despite the assurances given the previous day were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent had not received a response.
