The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU), in collaboration with N-TECH Information Systems Ltd, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration, is set to host a two-day professional and employability workshop aimed at equipping students with career insights beyond their academic degrees.
The workshop is scheduled to hold from Wednesday, August 12, to Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the First Bank Building, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan by 9 AM daily.
According to the organisers, the event will feature sessions on career development, artificial intelligence and digital skills, CV and LinkedIn optimisation, internship opportunities, industry networking, and refreshments for attendees.
Speaking on the initiative, the UISU General Secretary, Joshua Shontan, said the workshop was designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the corporate world.
“The Students’ Union, in our commitment to professional career development, we don’t just want students to graduate with only a degree; we believe there are other things that should be incorporated into the degree you’ll be earning. That is why we reached out to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja and the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration,” Shontan said.
He explained that the partnering organisations would contribute different aspects of the workshop based on their areas of expertise.
“The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment will be sharing what to look out for during interviews and what HR departments look for in a CV. We will also be hosting a CV clinic,” he said.
“While the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration will discuss skills that are applicable in Germany, skills that can land you a job in Germany, and scholarship opportunities for master’s students looking to pursue their degrees there.”
He also stated that registration is required for attendance and that participants are guaranteed access to the workshop once registered.
“We are expecting 500 students per day. Those who cannot make it on Wednesday can come on Thursday, but registration is required,” he added.
