Indy Press emerged victorious in the inaugural Francis Egbokhare Inter-Press debate finals held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the First Bank Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Agriculture.
The Francis Egbokhare Inter-Press Debate Competition commenced on October 14, 2023. It included various Faculty Press organisations such as AFAS Press, NUESA Press, FATSSSA Press, LAW Press, Agro Press, UIMSA Press, and Hall of residence Press organizations, including the likes of Indy Press, Zik Press and Idia Press, and Alexander Brown Hall.
The debate started with the preliminary round that saw each team in the two divisions face each other. Then, the results from the three rounds were collated, with the top two Press organizations qualifying for the finals.
Indy Press was represented by Ayeye Toluwalope, Moboluwarin Ogunleye, Ajadi Sodiq, and Eriomala John.
In the first preliminary round of the hall stream, Indy Press emerged victorious against Zik Press, with a score of 73.5. Then, in the second preliminary round against Idia Press, Indy Press secured a win with a score of 76 to 71.22. After the third preliminary round, Indy Press achieved an aggregate score of 73.1 to qualify for the final.
In the first preliminary round of the faculty stream, FATSSSA Press emerged as the winner with a score of 74.15 against AFAS Press, which had 71.33. In the second round, FATSSA Press secured another victory against Clinical Sciences with a score of 78.02, surpassing the 76.12 that Clinical Sciences had. After the third preliminary round, they achieved an aggregate score of 73.96, qualifying for the final.
In the final of the inter-hall category, Indy Press secured victory against ABH Press with a split judges vote of 3-1. Meanwhile, in the faculty category, FATSSA Press emerged triumphant over Clinical Sciences Press, 4-1.
